Bird of Paradise

This is a dramatic and showy napkin fold sure to wow your guests and make them wonder if you have taken up origami. The Bird of Paradise is perfect for a formal affair.

Steps

  1. Fold the napkin in quarters and place it with the open corner (four loose tips) facing away from you.
  2. Fold into a triangle by folding the bottom corner up and under (so that the loose corners remain at the top).
  3. Fold the right edge over so that it creates a line down the center of the napkin.
  4. Do the same with the right side.
  5. Tuck the bottom points under, so that you are looking at a triangle with an opening down the center.
  6. Fold the napkin in half with the points that were folded under in the previous step pressed together.
  7. Turn the triangle so that the original center fold is facing upward.
  8. Gently hold the end of the triangle (the two points you folded under in step 5) and pull the layers of the napkin upward from the center opening, one tip at a time to form the petals of the Bird of Paradise flower.
