Don't eat until each person has food on their plate and the hostess begins eating
Always use your flatware from the outside of the setting in and look around for what others are doing if you feel confused
If you drop silverware in public, leave it on the floor and ask for another setting, if you're at a dinner party, pick it up discreetly, wipe it off, place it on the table and ask for a replacement
Chew your food and put your fork down between bites
Keep your elbows off the table while you and others are eating
Don't use your napkin to tend to a splatter or splash - excuse yourself and use the restroom instead
Be polite to your table companions and steer clear of contentious topics
