Falafel

Falafel, a common dish across the Middle East is also known in Egypt as ta'amiyya. The word "falafel" comes from the Arabic word meaning pepper. The round balls or patties are usually made of chickpeas (garbanzo beans), fava beans or a combination of the two, depending on the traditional preparation of the region.

Falafel is eaten in countries world-wide, today. It is traditionally served with a yogurt sauce, as a sandwich or a filling in pita bread, or as an appetizer. When served as street food, falafel usually comes in pita bread sandwich form, with hummus, tahini, and various salads.
